Who We Are
Laxmi Agro Processors is a grain buying, processing and export business based at MIDC Chopda, Dist. Jalgaon, Maharashtra — the agricultural heartland of the Khandesh region. A unit of the Tarachand Harsay Agrawal Group, we bring decades of commodity trading expertise to a modern processing model: we source grain directly from farms, run it through our own facility and supply the cleaned, graded, Sortex-sorted output to domestic traders, dal mills and international importers.
Our business model is intentionally integrated. We do not broker raw grain or add markups through third-party processors. When you buy from Laxmi Agro Processors, you receive grain that has moved through a single controlled chain — farm procurement → our facility → your container. That traceability and quality consistency is what makes the difference.
India is the world's largest producer and consumer of chickpeas, contributing over 65% of global production in peak years. It is also a significant producer of maize, wheat, sorghum, pigeon peas and soybeans. This enormous production base gives Indian exporters a structural cost advantage and ensures supply continuity across growing seasons.
For buyers sourcing kabuli chickpeas from India, the value proposition versus Australian or Canadian origin is compelling: comparable visual quality (when properly Sortex-cleaned), shorter freight lead times to Middle East and Asian ports, and more competitive FOB pricing — especially in the mid-season window when domestic procurement costs are lowest.
For buyers looking for maize exported from India, the advantage is freight parity to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam and Malaysia — markets where Indian maize has a natural logistics edge over South American or Ukrainian origin.
Every commodity we export starts at the farm gate. Our team directly procures grain from farmer-producer organisations (FPOs), mandis and aggregators across Jalgaon, Buldhana and Nashik districts. Bulk lots are transported to our MIDC Chopda facility, where they are weighed in, moisture-tested and held in covered storage before processing.
The processing line runs through pre-cleaning (aspirator + scalper), destoning, rotary sizing (where chickpeas are separated into their count grades — 44/46, 58/60 and 82/85 per 100g), and finally dual-pass Sortex color sorting. The optical sorter runs at high speed, using cameras and precision air jets to eject discoloured, shrivelled and fungal-damaged grains. This is what converts a 94–96% purity lot into a 99%+ export-grade lot.
After processing, samples are drawn from each lot and submitted to an NABL-accredited laboratory for purity, moisture, admixture and aflatoxin analysis. We also handle the full export documentation chain — APEDA Certificate of Origin, Phytosanitary Certificate, Fumigation Certificate and Bill of Lading — ensuring customs clearance goes smoothly at destination ports.
Among all the commodities we handle, chickpeas represent the highest complexity and the highest margin for quality work. India exports both kabuli and desi varieties, and each has distinct specifications. Kabuli chickpeas are large, cream-coloured seeds used primarily for hummus, canned chickpeas and retail bags in Europe, the Middle East and North America. Desi chickpeas are smaller, darker and harder — used extensively in Indian dal, roasted snacks and flour (besan), as well as increasingly in export markets.
Kabuli count grading — the number of seeds per 100 grams — is the most important variable for international buyers. Our 44/46 count grade represents the largest, premium kabuli seeds, commanding the highest price per metric tonne. The 58/60 count is the most widely traded internationally, used by hummus manufacturers and canned chickpea factories in Europe, the USA and the Middle East. The 82/85 count supplies value-segment markets across Africa and Southeast Asia.
By running our own Sortex line, we can guarantee count-grade uniformity within each bagged lot — something that cannot be achieved at raw procurement level.
Laxmi Agro Processors operates as an APEDA-registered exporter. APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) is the Government of India body that oversees quality and documentation standards for agricultural exports. Our APEDA registration is a baseline compliance requirement that demonstrates we meet government-mandated standards for export operations.
Every export shipment is accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate (issued by Plant Quarantine, Government of India), a fumigation certificate confirming phosphine treatment, a moisture and quality test certificate from an NABL-accredited lab, and a Certificate of Origin. We ship on standard 20-foot and 40-foot containers from Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mumbai — India's largest container port, 350 km from our facility in Chopda.
