Indian Pigeon Peas — The World's Favourite Dal

Pigeon peas (Cajanus cajan), called tur or arhar in Hindi and toor in many Indian languages, are one of the most widely consumed pulses in South Asia and Africa. India is the world's largest producer and consumer, accounting for over 80% of global pigeon pea production in most years.

The primary growing regions — Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh — produce large volumes of both rabi (winter) and kharif (monsoon) tur. Maharashtra's Vidarbha and Marathwada regions are particularly significant, and Chopda in Khandesh sits at the logistical intersection of these growing zones, making procurement efficient for us.

We supply whole pigeon peas (for dal mills and export in raw form) as well as provide documentation for split pigeon peas (tur dal) processed by associated dal mills. Whole pigeon pea export is the primary format — importers in the UK, Canada, USA and East Africa buy whole tur for further splitting at destination.
